Understand the Region

Protecting a region's biodiversity starts with knowing what's living there. Our field staff goes further than surveying each affected area's species composition, habitat structure, and ecosystem function. We understand biodiversity to include local practices, cultural values, and human interaction with the environment. Our deep understanding of the region allows us to accurately assess the scale and magnitude of a project's environmental impact. This scientifically validated information then guides actions to reduce risks before they happen. Moreover, we can help identify those areas that are should never be developed – “no go areas” - where the potential impacts of a project will be too severe to completely mitigate or offset.
