Establish Offsets to Balance Environmental Risks

In some cases, appropriate planning and mitigation are enough to eliminate a project’s adverse effects. However, in other cases, developers must offset damage by protecting biodiversity elsewhere. Potential offsets can include creating new protected areas, improving management of private and public lands, or restoring degraded habitats. We design offsets by scientifically determining what will be lost as the result of the project and protecting similar species and habitats elsewhere.
